Sustainability report – Aktivhotel Alpendorf

Together with the neighboring hotels, the hotel operates its own wood chip heating system, which efficiently converts wood waste into heat. This environmentally friendly solution significantly reduces our carbon footprint and allows us to use a sustainable heat source.

In addition, a photovoltaic system was installed on our roof, which enables us to use solar energy and partially cover our electricity needs ourselves. In this way, we actively contribute to reducing fossil fuels and rely on renewable energy sources.

When selecting our suppliers, we prefer regional suppliers in order to support the local economy and minimize transport routes. For the breakfast buffet, we work with farmers (organic from the valley - Wagrain/Kleinarl) from the region. Through this conscious choice, we not only reduce our CO₂ emissions, but also promote local value creation.

Additionally, care is taken to purchase as packaging-free as possible in order to reduce waste and conserve resources. Bread, pastries, fruit, drinks and much more come to us in reusable boxes. Limos and juices are mixed directly in the hotel using Postmix - “zero waste” so to speak.

We avoid small packaging in the room - Our guests can find soap, shower gel and shampoo in refillable dispensers.

We pay attention to energy efficient technologies throughout the hotel, such as the use of power monitors and power-off switches, which avoid unnecessary power consumption and optimize usage. Our electricity provider Salzburg AG guarantees 100% ecological electricity from the region. The majority comes from small hydroelectric power plants in Salzburg. Our cooling system is also equipped with heat recovery: the excess heat is released directly into the hot water. In this way, we use the available energy multiple times and reduce our need for additional heating energy. In addition, waste is consistently separated at the Aktivhotel Alpendorf in order to promote recycling and the reuse of raw materials.

We also attach great importance to sustainability during construction and renovation. Only regional construction companies and craft businesses are commissioned in order to strengthen the local economy and use environmentally friendly transport routes.

With this decision, we ensure that our hotel construction meets the highest ecological standards and minimizes our ecological footprint.

Our employees are the central pillar of our success. We attach great importance to creating a respectful and appreciative working environment in which people are the focus.

We also rely on sustainable solutions in the area of ​​mobility. Our guests can be picked up from the train station free of charge, which promotes and supports environmentally friendly travel options.

We provide our employees with an electric sharing car that can be used flexibly and enables the use of environmentally friendly vehicles. Half of our cars are now electrically powered. In addition, we lend our employees e-bikes free of charge to support emission-free transportation on the way to work and in their free time.

Electric charging stations are available for our guests in the parking lot.

In everyday life, we also rely on creative solutions and work with social institutions that help us conserve resources. For example, candle pillars are collected and processed into new products by people with disabilities. For us, these small details are important building blocks of a holistic sustainability concept.

At the Aktivhotel Alpendorf, the used cooking oil is also used sustainably. Instead of disposing of it, we collect it and give it to Bio Oil, which processes the oil and converts it into biodiesel. Through this initiative, we are helping to keep valuable resources in circulation and replacing fossil fuels, which further contributes to reducing CO₂ emissions.
